The Dreaming…

Dr. Emily Harris is a bad blood nutter.

A one-time child prodigy, she emerged from a bizarrely traumatic youth into celebrated academic status almost overnight.  Baffled by society and her own sensual detachment, and tormented by a disturbingly aggressive logic and memories of a near death experience, she soon discovered her visionary mind cracked.

For Emily Dreams, mad, farsighted Dreams intent on murdering her stead fast reason.

In a spiral of hellish descent, Emily bartered with doctors, entered an ill fated marriage, turned to street pharmacists, and in a final act of desperation, returned to the crackerjack care of the Mother she once fled for sanity’s sake.  Progressively agoraphobic, and increasingly seduced by nightmarish visions, Emily is furious at the cruelties of genetic Fate.  Her diplomas are useless taunts, her well-loved books fellow exiles, her wedding gown a shrine to shame.

But as Emily so bitterly knows, Destiny is a mischievous bitch.  A man has come looking for Emily, telling tales about a long lost grandfather who needs her help.  A silver-tongued, angel-faced man who may or may not be every Dream her nightmares tell her she can never have.

A man who may not really be a man at all…

About Laura Barnes

I spent most of my gypsy childhood traveling the US in the back seat of a car with my nose stuck in a book. After discovering the expansive world of Star Trek at age 12, I quickly became invested. From there it was a wondrous journey from aliens to dragons to demons, the quirkier the better! I began writing stories of my own, but by college had begun to focus my talents into a more marketable field: journalism. I invested heavily in my career, earning a fellowship to the University of Montana. But, after a series of health problems and the uneasy realization that I wasn't happy with my choices despite my success, I spent some time finding myself. Eventually my love for writing resurfaced, and I now devote myself to a melding of interests: creating scifi and fantasy stories with a social twist, and urban homesteading. I live happily on Maryland's Eastern shore with my wonderful husband, three small dogs, a odd ball troop of cats, and eight backyard hens.
