A comprehensive list of my fan girl obsessions recommendations…  I’m not a paranormal snob, per se, but if it’s recommended here, it’s well written/ well produced/ drool worthy.  I spend a lot of time sorting through books/TV shows/fan fiction/ etc., and what I have listed below is the best of the best.  Just to make your own obsessing a little easier.

Fan Fiction

Sooric (Sookie/Eric SSN/TB)

  • Eric, by DeeDee.  SSN Sooric.  The Sookie Stackhouse novels from Eric Northman’s POV.  Well written, addictive and juicy.
  • Let Love In, by Terria Botta.  SSN Sooric.  Eric and Sookie take a trip together…  And nothing is ever the same.
  • Waking up in NOLA, by Sophie Myst.  What if Sookie was a vampire when she met Eric?  Amazing, creative AU with no Bill drama.  I would probably love it for that alone.  Also check out her A Smarter Sookie story.
  • Even at My Most Jaded, I Still Had Hope by Sarafina.  AU Sooric.  Sookie grew up in the foster care system, and everything changes when she finally makes her way back to Bon Temps…

Books

Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries (SSN/SVM), by Charlaine Harris

  • Follows the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse, telepathic waitress extraordinaire.  Set in an alternate universe where vampires have “come out of the coffin”, this sexy series is full of humor, heart and blood lust.  HBO dark heart Alan Ball picked up one of these books in his dentist’s office and loved it so much he created the hit show True Blood.

Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton

  • Kids be warned, Anita Blake is Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Play Girl.  A superbly written, dark fantasy series that follows the life and loves of Anita Blake, a vampire executioner/animator.  Similar to the SSN, Anita Blake lives in a world where vampires and other supernatural creatures live out in the open.  Anita is a petite, darkly humorous, magical bad ass who balances her duties as vampire executioner/cop liaison with life among the monsters.  Violent, highly erotic and addictive.  If you’re prone to blushing, do not read these books in public.

Meredith Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton

  • Nothing less then magical erotica with highly developed characters and plot.  The series follows the life of American Faery princess, Meredith Gentry, and her political intrigues within/without the faery courts.  Think Princess Di meets the Brothers Grimm.

Fever series by Karen Marie Moning

  • When MacKayla Lane’s twin sister is murdered in Ireland, she begins a journey full of sexy magical intrigue.  Moning has a beautiful, haunting imagination.  This series is a darkly written masterpiece that focuses on the deep, unpredictable love of family.

Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson

  • Meet Elizabeth Taylor, AKA Betsy, AKA the accidental Vampire Queen.  Meet her designer shoe collection.  A humorous, fluffy, brilliant tale full of vampires, supernatural beasties and Ferragamos.

TV Shows

For those of you interested in watching any of the shows below, I recommend the amazing letmewatchthis.com.  If you want to watch it, whether it be TV or movie, they probably have it.

True Blood

  • A vampire walks into a bar, and telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse’s life is never the same…  Based on the marvelous Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, this show is full of vampires, sex and blood.  It hurts so good.

Firefly

  • Cowboys in space.  I know, I know, it sounds strange, but this is seriously the best show ever made in the history of television.  Witty, dark and poignant, it inspired a following of “Brown Coats” that caused such an uproar upon its cancellation that they made a blockbuster movie… Serenity.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BTVS)

  • What’s there to say about this FANtastic series created by man-god Joss Whedon?  Buffy Summers is the Slayer, a teenage girl chosen to rid the world of the evil undead menace.  Toss in a couple of tortured vampire love interests, a bewildered-yet-sexy British librarian and a witty band of misfit Scoobies, and you’ve got a hit of cult proportions.

Blood Ties

  • Follows cop-turned-P.I. Vicki Nelson and her adventures with undead, ex-royal Henry Fitzroy (you know, Henry the VIII’s bastard son).  This show is just a paranormal jewel, way ahead of its time.  Based on Tanya Huff’s Blood Books.

Castle

  • A darkly humorous murder mystery show about Rick Castle, a quirky murder-mystery writer who trails a sexy homicide detective named Kate Beckett. Normally I stick to the paranormal, but I make an exception for this one.

Battlestar Galatica

  • What happens when you mix flawless writing, science fiction and Greco-Roman mythology?  Battlestar Galactica, in all its amazing, heart-pumping glory.  Normally, I despise remakes.  But this show was just epically done.
